In 2012, Chris and Johnny O'Neal launched the Kickstarter for Boss Monster. At the time, they hoped to sell a few hundred copies and cover part of the costs for an initial print run. They had no board game publishing experience, and didn't have much hope of success. But when the project went live, it was a surprise hit. Meeting its goal in one day, the project eventually earned the support of 4,689 backers. Boss Monster hit retail in 2013 and has been a best-seller ever since.
Some of those original backers showed an extra level of support: they pledged $150 for an "Unlimited Lives" pledge level that included a lifetime voucher for every new Boss Monster expansion that Brotherwise Games might publish in the future. It might have seemed like a risky bet at the time, but definitely paid off over the next decade of almost annual releases!
